Abstract
Using ArcIMS in the Open GIS Environment

This paper presents the implementation of ArcIMS in the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunication (DoITT) Citywide GIS Utility Project. This will allow different City departments and agents to access the geographic data through Internet and Intranet. The central data repository will be stored in Oracle Spatial at an IBM mainframe, and ArcIMS will serve as an application server. The paper explores the integration of n-tier architecture, and the use of ArcIMS and ArcSDE direct connection.
