Abstract

Paper  Leveraging the PPL's EFD to Determine Fusing Opportunities
Track: Electric and Gas
Author(s): Matt McCain, John Ross

PPL is leveraging its Electric Facilities Database (EFD) to determine where to place protective devices in the field. In response to a need to reduce the frequency of outages, PPL is using ArcStorm and an Oracle database along with transformer and customer databases to determine where to optimally place fuses in the field. Tracing uses upstream device information and downstream customer information to determine which conductor spans best qualify for additional protective devices. The process targets single phase taps with a high number of customers, which do not have an upstream fuse before a three-phase recloser or sectionalizer. This paper discusses the process that was developed at PPL.
