Community Analysis: A Systems Approach to Crime Mapping

Within the framework of community analysis, crime analysis is a subset of a larger equation relating to understanding the causes of crime and the interrelationships of factors contributing to it. Highlighted in this presentation is a case study of the Redlands Police Department's Risk Focused Policing strategy, a problem-oriented strategy that is a data- and results-driven, community-oriented policing and problem solving strategy. Risk Focused Policing focuses on those factors in a community that place its youth and their families most at risk for criminal and other problem behaviors, by combining traditional crime data with nontraditional data from other community groups and organizations.
