Abstract
Providing Earth Imaging Solutions in the 21st Century

The tragic events of September 11 irrevocably altered the manner in which the US Government regards and uses commercial imagery and services. At once, there was a need for immediate, high volume order fulfillment and remote distribution. Neither the Government or Industry were initially well-equipped to respond. Fortunately, through a series of actions undertaken by both, commercial imagery quickly became "operationalized". This paper provides a synopsis of the lessons-learned from these events by describing shortfalls that were immediately or subsequently addressed while also identifying areas for further improvement. The impact of these changes on future support to both Homeland Security and National Security customer support will also be addressed.
