Abstract

Paper
A Spatiotemporal GIS for Analyzing Transportation and Land Use Interactions
Track: Transportation and Logistics
Author(s): Shih-Lung Shaw, Xiaohong Xin

Transportation systems evolve over time in response to changing travel demands and land use patterns. Land use patterns also experience frequent changes due to the changing transportation systems and travel needs. To analyze the interactions between land use changes and transportation system development, there is a need for a GIS framework that takes into account the time component (when), the location component (where), and the attribute component (what) associated with these changes and their interrelationships. This paper will present a spatiotemporal GIS data model that is based on the geodatabase data model and is designed to facilitate the analysis of transportation and land use interactions.
