Abstract

Paper
Improving Municipal Environmental Investigations with GIS
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Susan Stuver, Stephen Brown

The City of San Antonio is interested in the efficient and cost-effective allocation of public funds. For this reason, a powerful, but easy-to-use management and organizational GIS model for municipal environmental investigations was developed by the University of Texas at San Antonio. This presentation will focus on how this model can provide the City of San Antonio Environmental Department with a mapping tool that takes the guesswork out of environmental investigations. This presentation will also demonstrate how the remediation process for contaminated areas can be improved with the use of ArcGIS and GPS.
