Abstract

GIS: A Tool for Everyone
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Lisa Poisson, Franklin Fisher, Terry Biederman

The Charter Township of Waterford in Michigan has a population of approximately 74,000 residents and a land use primarily described as urban. In 1997, the Township began implementation of its GIS program with the intention of it being an enterprisewide solution. As is often the case, many GIS programs never achieve full utilization by staff and are relegated to one or a few users. This paper will discuss how the township successfully incorporated GIS into staff's daily work flow and will touch on future implementations and applications.
