Abstract

Paper
Optimal Water Distribution System Management Using Esri MapObjects Technology
Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Werner de Schaetzen

Effective monitoring of water quality parameters and compliance with governmental regulations require the selection of representative sampling sites that provide maximum information on the state of the system. This presentation describes an efficient approach to rank monitoring stations based on graph theory and GIS. The method links a variation of the shortest path algorithm with a hydraulic simulator and GIS technology for spatial database management and result presentation. The GIS interface is developed using MapObjects. The integrated system offers a powerful GIS environment to assist utility managers in determining the optimal number and location of their monitoring stations to meet regulations.
