Abstract

Modeling Future Rural Residential Development in the City of New Berlin
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): David Haines

During the last several years, the City of New Berlin, Wisconsin, has had a crucial ongoing debate on how the City's remaining rural areas should be developed. While nearly everyone has agreed that cluster-style conservation subdivisions should be used, it was heavily debated at what density these subdivisions should be developed. This presentation will show how GIS was used to help model and present the various options being discussed. These GIS-based analyses were fundamental to the formation of land development ordinances.
