Abstract
GeoBase: Challenges of Integrating GIS with Legacy Information Systems

The Air Force GeoBase program is in the process of weaving geospatial technologies into existing mission processes. A formidable challenge is to develop digital map interfaces that enable users to exploit existing (legacy) information systems data in a meaningful way that adds value to business processes. This presentation will use a case study to explore the process of evaluating a legacy information system and a standards-based ArcGIS geospatial database to determine physical linkages. The paper will also discuss the more important subject of proper data interaction and usage that overwhelmingly governs adoption of geospatial technologies by individuals to support their day-to-day activities.
