Abstract

Savannah, Georgia's Utility GIS Development Project: Lessons Learned
Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): John Locke, John Cestnick

The City of Savannah contracted Woolpert LLP, a multidiscipline engineering company, to provide GPS field mapping, GIS development, and software integration services. This paper will present the development of the Savannah Utility GIS/GPS Conversion Project. Hear from both the City of Savannah's and Woolpert's project managers about various lessons learned and how to see a utility inventory and conversion project through to a successful completion. Discussions will include field/office communication and ways to improve the process, QA/QC scheduling and data acceptance, product expectations, budgeting issues and how there can affect your project, and what level of client involvement should be expected.
