Abstract
Implementation of an Enterprise GIS at NAVSEA Indian Head, Surface Warfare Center Division, Indian Head, Maryland

Effective management of more than 3,500 acres of land at IHDIV requires a robust GIS. In 1994, the GIS was established to support natural resource conservation and environmental compliance initiatives. Over the past three years, GIS implementation has expanded to a basewide endeavor. The GIS actively supports installation business processes in addition to providing tenants with valuable geographic information. GIS data, imagery, and maps are currently being delivered to all installation personnel via the IHDIV Intranet. The enterprise-based GIS serves as a solution for the installation to share geographic knowledge for crossfunctional planning and daily business operations thus, enhancing mission performance.
