Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): David Coleman

With GIS becoming such an integral part of water and wastewater utility operations, it is essential that the database remains current and accurate. Thus, it is important to have a well-executed maintenance process. Many factors should be considered, such as data collection, data entry, workflow, and quality assurance. As a consultant working with Esri software for several utilities, The author has experienced many successes and encountered some pitfalls with GIS implementations and their subsequent maintenance. This paper will discuss some experiences, present a plan for efficient GIS maintenance, and discuss other important considerations for an ongoing GIS program.
