Abstract

The Importance of Linear Referencing as an Analytical Tool for Crime Analysis
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Author(s): Scott Crossney

Within the realm of crime mapping, accurate placement of incident information is paramount to effective analysis. By creating a linear referenced roadway data set based on the dynamic segmentation data model, analytical study of incident information will improve through an increase in spatial accuracy and more timely data analysis. This study will show the importance of linear referencing as it pertains to accuracy standards of postional data and will develop a methodology to process standard transportation data into a linear referenced system capable of analyzing incident data based on milepost information.
