Abstract

G-Gov: GIS to Enhance E-Government
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Matthew Nelson, Joseph Kelly

Outlined in the President's Management Agenda as one of the top five key government reform items, e-government is starting to be embraced by cities across the country. By extension, G-Gov (i.e., GIS supporting e-government initiatives) is being brought to the forefront of local government. This paper explores approaches to making GIS integral to e-government, including ROI, increased efficiency within city departments, and the technologies/strategies behind these approaches. Specific case studies include an online permitting system for the City of San Antonio, TX and a parcel information system used in multiple cities.
