Abstract

The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) ArcView Toolkit Watershed Tool
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Peter Steeves

The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) ArcView Toolkit is a collection of ArcView extensions that helps users work with NHD data. One of these extensions is the watershed tool which allows users to delineate watersheds from any point on an NHD reach network. For the watershed tool to work, 1:24,000-scale NHD must be preprocessed concurrently with several other data layers in tiles of eight-digit hydrologic units. Preprocessing provides a true horizontally-integrated digital-basemap of 1:24,000-scale physiography, spatially consistent with Digital Raster Graphics of USGS topographic quadrangles. The NHD ArcView Toolkit watershed tool, applied to estimating flood frequency along any stream/river reach in Vermont, provides important information to local, State, and federal decision makers.
