Abstract
Visualizing Future Community Growth

The Town of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, is experiencing rapid growth and is concerned about the long- and short- term impacts of this growth. It is using the Policy Simulator (PolSim) module, Community Viz extension to ArcView, to help visualize this change. PolSim adds time to the modeling arena. After carefully calibrating PolSim to the Town's historical trends, new future land value, building growth, and land use thematic layers were created. "What-if" analyses were performed to visualize the effects of proposed policy changes. These results have proven effective in stimulating productive discussions regarding policy changes and growth management within the community.
