Abstract

GIS Data Warehousing in Crime Analysis
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Author(s): Paul Trudt, Mark Dougherty, Joe Kingston

The St. Louis County Police has begun to utilize a data warehouse for crime analysis applications that integrates MapObjects technology. The data warehouse interfaces with the department's RMS and a regional Web-enabled mug shot system to supply a spatial list of potential suspects based on home address, work address, and incident address. In Addition, census data and value-added demographic data reside within the warehouse with other social/physical environment variables such as weather conditions, length of daylight hours, and seasonal impacts. This paper will focus on the elements of the data warehouse and their role in crime analysis.
