Track: Environment Management
Author(s): Gary Hennington, Henry Manguerra, Haihong Yang

The Surface Water Information Management System (SWIMS) is a Web-based application that provides mapping and report capabilities to support the surface water programs of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. This system integrates spatial and tabular databases and makes them accessible to Intranet users through a Web browser. Spatial data was compiled from a variety of sources and converted to an Oracle/SDE geodatabase using ArcGIS 8.1. ArcIMS 3.1 is used to process map-related requests. The application is developed using Active Server Page technology and programming/scripting languages such as DHTML, JavaScript, CSS, Visual Basic Script, SQL, and PL/SQL.
