Abstract
The Geographic Distribution of Suicides in San Diego County

In response to research indicating that suicide is the leading cause of nonnatural death, and using the Surgeon General's suicide prevention strategy as a guide, a multidisciplinary suicide prevention work group was established in San Diego County in June 2000. A major component of this work group was to conduct research so that interventions could be most effectively targeted using the resources available. This study used ArcView 3.2 to compare the geographic distribution of suicides within San Diego County with established demographic risk factors such as age, gender, and occupation to develop a predictive spatial model of suicide within the County.
