Abstract

HAZUS: A GIS-Based Multi-Hazard Risk Asessment Tool
Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management
Author(s): Claire Drury

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, under a contract with the National Institute of Building Sciences, is continuing development of HAZUS, a standardized, nationally applicable multihazard loss estimation methodology. HAZUS now allows users to assess potential losses from earthquakes, while the capability to assess flood and hurricane losses is being developed and tested. The HAZUS methodology is implemented through a commercially available, PC-based GIS.
