Identifying the currency, content, and correctness of the GIS land base is critical to the successful implementation of a GIS application. This document provides a direction to build the geodetic component that establishes land base accuracy. The quality of the selected land base is often overlooked in GIS projects. Increasing the return on investment in the GIS can be tied to the confidence that the GIS users have in the quality and consistency of the database. Building the land base requirements accurately will increase user acceptance of the database, minimize future maintenance costs, and improve application effectiveness.
