Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Steven Anderson, Mark Carlino
The Town of Manchester, CT, having a population of approximately 55,000 citizens and located in central Connecticut began implementing an enterprise-wide GIS solution nearly four years ago. A comprehensive base mapping project including 40-scale planimetric and topographic mapping, cadastral layer using deed and coordinate geometry (COGO) techniques, and storm, sanitary sewer, and water utilities development employing full field inventory using GPS are nearing completion. The Town is now developing and distributing GIS applications using desktop (ArcGIS), Web-based (ArcIMS), and palm (ArcPAD) technologies to its users. This talk will cover an overview of the project, the methodologies employed, and the lessons learned along the way.
