Abstract

GIS Development for a Long-term Water Demand Forecasting System (DFS)
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Chris Friel, Jerson Rivera

Tampa Bay Water provides high-quality water to more than two million Florida residents and must meet future needs in a cost-effective manner. The goal of the DFS project is to develop an integrated, easily updated GIS application to forecast future water demands. The system includes the ability to evaluate water data spatially, develop long-term water demand scenarios, and provide risk-based, probabilistic water demand projections, which can then be used to estimate the timing and reliability of future supplies. DFS will allow Tampa Bay Water to evaluate the degree of uncertainty and cost they are willing to accept in making future supply development decisions.
