The topics are: the development of Stadsalmanak Rotterdam, data-management and the effects the use of inter/intranet has on organizations. Most of the problems in ArcIMS projects have to do with data or with the organization. The development of Stadsalmanak Rotterdam, a dedicated ArcIMS client for query and visualization of demographic information, is used to highlight these aspects. Initially data problems were solved in a pragmatic way. As maintaining the data became a bigger issue a migration from the current architecture, based on shapefiles, to an Oracle-SDE environment has been initiated and the information structure was embedded in the organization.
