Abstract

Manitoba Land Initiative (MLI): Use of GIS to Facilitate Decision Making in the Government of Manitoba.
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Author(s): Jadranka Paskvalin

The Manitoba Land Initiative is a partnership between the Office of Information Technology and the seven government departments where geospatial land data currently resides. It harmonizes the geospatioal information and make it web accessible, to facilitate decision making with respect to: resource management; environmental impact analysis; disaster management; market analysis; sustainable development; and, to encourage investment in the Province of Manitoba. This presentation will give an overview of the initiative, covering the standards, policies, partnerships, and costing structures, which have been developed, and the main components, i.e., the central on-line database, the metadata directory; the web page which allows direct access to the central data base; and, the plan for the development and implementation of the cadastral map which will link ownership interests, and assessed value information to a spatial map. In October, 2001, MLI was presented with an Award of Excellence at Esri Canada's annual Esri Regional User Conference in Winnipeg.
