Abstract
The Bay Area Geographic Information Survey: Results and Prospects for the Metadata Catalog
Track: Metadata and Data Publishing

A multi-agency project, sponsored by Bay Area Automated Mapping Association, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Association of Bay Area Governments, U.C. Berkeley, and the Federal Geographic Data Committee, conducted a survey of the creators and maintainers of digital geographic information throughout the Bay Area. The results have been tabulated and formatted for inclusion into California's statewide geographic metadata catalog. This presentation describes the awareness and use of metadata in the Bay Area and emphasizes the importance of maintaining agency metadata in the catalog.
