Abstract

Event Management, the Common Operational Picture and Public Safety
Track: Homeland Security
Author(s): TJ Kennedy

With more than 85 local, state, and Federal agencies involved in providing public safety for the 2002 Winter Olympics, ensuring all participants had access to a common operational picture was essential. The Utah Olympic Public Safety Command implemented a theater-wide system for situational awareness based on E-Team, an ArcIMS based "whiteboard in the sky" for incident and event management, critical asset and infrastructure coordination and monitoring. All public safety personnel at Olympic venues, the Olympic Command Center, and more than 100 supporting agency and other locations were able to quickly access the same situation maps, reports, and status information regardless of location, enabling efficient distributed event management.
