Abstract
Hardness, Technology, Safety and the Smart Building

As a demonstration project, the FBI and Utah Olympic Public Safety Command headquarters facility was retrofitted with sophisticated detection and protective technologies for enhanced Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) protection. These technologies created a "Smart Building" capable of enhanced survivability and continuity of operations in case of a terrorist attack, hazardous materials release, or other catastrophic event. Elements included GPS-referenced sensors, GIS-based hazard modeling tools, automated building monitoring and over-pressurization system, on-site decontamination facilities, and a variety of physical protective measures. The aim is to transfer CBR-protection technology and enhanced consequence assessment software to Federal, State, County and Local Officials
