Abstract

Extending the Geography Network inside the Corporation: A Unocal Case Study
Track: Petroleum
Author(s): Richard LeVeque, Darcy Vaughan

Unocal, like most corporations uses a combination of external commercial data and internal proprietary data, both spatial and otherwise. For the past 18 months, Unocal has been working with petroWEB to provide an Internet/Intranet based GIS modeled on the Geography network. This model has been extended to enable the GIS to be utilized as a tool to view and acquire internal and external non-spatial data. Other Web services provide surveillance and data movement between source and target data sources. Unocal is now extending this interface of a GIS tool to their international offices to provide integration across the company.
