Development of a Transportation Decision Support Tool Using MapObjects
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Hojong Baik, Nicolas Hinze, Antonio Trani

A decision support model is a tool decision makers can exploit when they make final decisions in their areas. Basically, a decision support model provides answers to so-called "what-if" questions on decision variables. In this paper, we present a decision support model developed for impact analysis of a new transportation system called "Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS)" on national transportation system. Using Visual Basic, an integrated model is developed as a final product. The integrated model consists of several components including a System Dynamics model for the impact analysis that are coded in Matlab and converted into Component Object Model (COM), various types of socio-economic data required for the modeling process that are stored in MS Access data format, and geographical representation of data used and analysis results using MapObjects.
