Implementing ISO Data Quality Standards Using Esri GIS Data ReViewer
Track: Metadata and Data Publishing
Author(s): David Wesloh, John Sturley

As more and more digital data becomes available the issue shifts from one of finding data to one of finding data that meets your requirements. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and Esri working through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) have developed a series of quality evaluation tools based on the ISO Data Quality Standards. These tools implemented in the Esri GIS Data ReViewer software are designed to address standardized quality reporting requirements as defined by ISO. This paper presents an overview of the ISO Data Quality indicators and a look at how software development efforts are addressing each of those quality elements. Development of commercial off-the-shelf software based on internationally agreed upon standards offers the best potential to address issues such as data sharing and fitness for use.
