On the Street Where You Live, Work, and Shop Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Khaled Soliman, Gene Hsieh The City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has brought GIS on the internet to another level by providing a visual window into the community through iView LA. The concept was conceived by a Council District who wanted a visual experience of a walking tour of the 1st Street Redevelopment Area. Implementation of the pilot project was a collaboration between CRA, City of Los Angeles IT Department, and FORMA Systems. iView LA provides internet access to photographs of every parcel within the Study Area which are seamed together to form a panoramic picture. The user can access the photograph and interactively link to iMAP LA, an existing ArcIMS application containing City of Los Angeles GIS information. The experience of the user is further enhanced through the iView interface, which allows a user to scroll up, down, and across the street. iView LA provides a quick and easy photographic portal to the community.
