 Extending ArcIMS With PHP and MySQL Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Byron Cochrane The Ada County Assessor Office has brought the power of GIS to a broader audience by incorporating the open source tools PHP and MySQL with ArcIMS. The two applications to be examined are a parcel map viewer attached to an AS400 Property Information System and Adapar, an Internet parcel mapping system linked to tabular data stored in MySQL. The first example will show how the spatial components of MySQL can be harnessed to improve performance of a simple map viewer. The second example will illustrate how Ada County harnessed the power of PHP and MySQL to provide quick access to tabular characteristics of parcels viewed on an ArcIMS internet implementation. Used together, PHP and MySQL can provide a powerful, rugged, well tested, and inexpensive solution for improving performance and extending the capabilities of an ArcIMS implementation.
