System Dynamic Modeling Combined With GIS in Rural Development Planning
Track: Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Affairs
Author(s): Lajos Dobrosi, Juergen Wolfbauer

To anticipate and assess the future (long term) effect of planning decisions on rural development and territorial competitiveness, a toolset, combined with decision support features (SWOT, scenario generation, system dynamic simulation, AHP), is developed for stake holders use. Anchor point in this set is GIS enhanced deployment of system dynamic simulation. It supports consequent system analysis of complex interactions of subsystems in economic, social and environmental domains and calibration of indicators. GIS is used offline in preprocessing quantitative parameters of regional analysis. But GIS is fully integrated to the simulation tool for post processing and visualizing the time series data. A communication Interface tool is used which provides functions to visualize the spatially related data output of system dynamic modeling by special features of AML and Avenue scripts. The interval in time series of indicators of rural development to be mapped is chosen individually to get the best contrasting effects.
