The United States Bird Avoidance Model (US BAM) was researched and developed to assist U.S. Air Force Pilots and Planners ensure adequate precautions are taken to avoid bird strikes. Its creation was jointly sponsored by the Air Force Safety Center's Bird and Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Team and researchers at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). ArcView and ArcInfo were used to analyze and correlate bird habitat, migration, and breeding characteristics in combination with key environmental and man-made features to create the model.
