Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Travis Smith, Gloria Piazza

The 56th Range Management Office (RMO) at Luke Air Force Base in southwestern Arizona is responsible for all environmental issues, range operations and airspace/flight management associated with the eastern segment of the Barry M. Goldwater Range (BMGR); consisting of approximately 1,650,000 acres. The RMO consists of pilots, EOD specialists, archaeologists, biologists, engineers, airspace managers, environmental planners and quality assurance evaluators who work with the Air Force and other government agencies to preserve, protect, and enhance the BMGR. The GIS Services team, located within the Environmental Science Management flight of the 56 RMO, supports all GIS-related activities within the 56 RMO. GIS service support includes data development and validation, GPS data acquisition, design and implementation of database specifications, GIS system administration, development of presentation quality maps, documentation and metadata production. This presentation will explore the 56 RMO GIS operation and the variables that make it so valuable to U.S. Air Force.
