Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Harley Pennington, Ken Schmidt, Alan Cadieux, Steven Hochart

The Building Footprint Geo-Database Project is for the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Planning and Permitting to further enhance the City's existing Geographical Information System. This project examines new technologies and improvements in information acquisition, accuracy, Geo-Databases, graphical displays and 3D visualizations of building structures, shapes, and outlines of physical locations. These improvements in technologies and data acquisition will further support necessary City services for land use planning, tax assessment, construction permitting, utility management, homeland security, and other major programs. Many new and interesting technologies and information sources were uncovered during the development of the Building Footprint Source Data Analysis and Design Report. This project will provide the City with a geodatabase that will include the building footprints for more than 300,000 structures. Additionally, this database will include three-dimensional models for buildings of each Neighborhood Board that can be navigated and recorded in full resolution fly-thru capability.
