Developing an Enterprise GIS for Water Resources Management
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Michael Nusser, Audrey Melton, Ali Diba

One challenge for water resources management is the vast amount of data that is collected from different sources in a variety of formats. Eastern Municipal Water District in Southern California has amassed three million groundwater related records. In response to an overwhelming need to access and query this data, efforts to build a single Regional Water Resources Database for the District and link this data to an Enterprise GIS have facilitated the comprehensive analysis of groundwater basins and provided a means to preserve historical data. Mapplet.NET serves as the GIS interface developed in a multi-vendor environment with Esri's ArcIMS and ArcGIS technologies and Microsoft's .NET. Taking advantage of an Enterprise SDE and Geodatabase for the query of spatial data, Mapplet.NET displays tabular and time-series data related to those features. Connecting GIS data with tabular and time-series data in an Enterprise GIS has limitless possibilities for water resources management.
