Utilizing GIS for Sustainable Ecotourism Development and Management
Track: Ecology and Conservation
Author(s): Thomas Zeng

The potential of GIS application in the tourism business has been well recognized, and some progress has been made in the last decade. However, as compared to GIS applications in other fields, the application of GIS in this "non-smoke" industry is still relatively slow due to various reasons. This paper explores the potential GIS applications in ecotourism and discusses the requirement of GIS function for ecotourism, with a case study of ecotourism planning using grid modeling techniques and geodatabase for ecotourism resources management. Further research is recommended.
