Creating a Single Transportation Database for ArcGIS and MicroStation Geographics
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Jack Martin, Michael Deamer, Thomas Moen

The purpose of the Transportation Spatial Database (TSD) project is to

build a spatial repository for all of Maryland's State Highway

Administration (MSHA) Cartographic and GIS data as well as an

application that allow the development, maintenance, and management of

this spatial data through both ArcGIS and MicroStation. This abstract

will address interoperability in sharing and storing feature classes,

symbology, and annotation in a single repository as well as accessing

the data through the most appropriate editing environment ('best tool

for the job'), ArcGIS or MicroStation. Areas covered will include high

level design, interoperability considerations and lessons learned as well as demonstration of the application, including selection, editing, and

maintenance of feature classes, and publishing cartographic and GIS

products from selected editing environment.
