An Integrated Platform for Spatial Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery
Track: New Technology and System Integration
Author(s): Shang-Wei Lin, Chih-Hong Sun, Chin-Han Chen

Spatial data mining and knowledge discovery have raised wide spread interest in the GIS community recently, partly because the rapid accumulation of large GIS database in government agencies and also the recent technical advances in machine learning research, database, and visualization technologies. However, the lack of appropriate tools in current GIS software has become a barrier in spatial data mining and knowledge discovery. The objective of this research is therefore to develop an integrated platform for spatial data mining and knowledge discovery by combining artificial intelligence techniques and GIS software. An Artificial intelligent Spatial and temporal Information Analyst (ASIA) tool is developed in this project by integrating neural network, genetic algorithm, and fuzzy logic modules into an ArcGIS package so that it is convenient for the GIS users to apply it in the field of spatial data mining and knowledge discovery.
