Using Agent-Based Components in GIS Applications
Track: Modeling
Author(s): Daniel Miller

Agent-Based objects integrate usefully into a number of traditional GIS modeling and simulation areas, extending the capabilities of the GIS. An example application is built using the tools provided in the open source Agent Analyst extension to demonstrate how the extension can be used. The agent-based simulation presents the discrete interaction of Agents and how this can lead to emergent behaviors, a key benefit that agent-based technology brings to modeling and simulation. The model goes on to show how the Agent Analyst allows these behaviors to be presented clearly and intuitively through a GIS.
