Learn More About Your Neighborhood Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): Lynn Wombold What does your neighborhood say about you? Learn what segmentation databases can reveal about your community. Using GIS and segmentation, you can locate similar communities across the U.S. Lynn Wombold, a demographer and statistician, has led the development of the Community Tapestry segmentation system. All U.S. residential neighborhoods were grouped according to a number of factors including demographics, urbanization, and lifestyle to produce a 65-segment database. Tapestry's flexibility allows for summary grouping by urbanization and/or lifestyle. Miss Wombold will discuss how segmentation can easily be integrated into GIS technology for enhanced applications, how Tapestry was built, and interesting trends revealed by the database. She will illustrate her session with maps showing Tapestry segments.
