Track: EMS/Fire
Author(s): Ebru Akpinar, nurunnisa usul

Unfortunately, every year, a very large amount of forested land is destroyed by fire with various results. Even today, in spite of modern techniques of fire prevention and suppression, fires continue to damage forests. This paper will discuss fire risk areas and the sufficiency of existing fire towers are examined using GIS techniques. For this purpose Abant Lake region was chosen as a study area because of its beautiful forests, wildlife and recreational sites. GIS functions that are very useful and effective in forest fire analyses were used with ArcGIS. After digitizing and manipulating necessary information on the maps, many analyses were performed to achieve classifications and to determine risky areas. Another analysis was performed on existing fire towers, which are vital in detecting fire in time, to determine their capabilities. Finally suggestions about new fire tower locations were made.
