Custom JSF Client for Accessing Z39.50 Metadata in ArcIMS
Track: Metadata and Data Publishing
Author(s): Amar Das

Z39.50 is a national and international (ISO 23950) standard defining a protocol for computer-to-computer information retrieval. Unlike conventional metadata search, Z39.50 allows users to search metadata based on related tag information. Some example of Z39.50 implementations are the Library of Congress Catalog, NSDI/FGDC clearinghouse, etc. This paper will discuss how to publish Z39.50 compliant metadata in ArcIMS and build a custom JSF client to access the published metadata using Esri's libraries (.jar files). It will also discuss other relevant technologies and compares them with ArcIMS.
