Experiencing Problems Loading Raster Datasets to ArcSDE?
Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management
Author(s): Kieren Smith

Do you have large (state-wide) archives of raster datasets, scanned maps, panchromatic and color imagery of different resolutions that are in different projections and file formats, which you want to load to ArcSDE? Would you like to hear more about the technical issues we encountered doing just this and how we resolved them? This presentation will address some of the technical issues to consider when planning ArcSDE raster loading such as choosing ArcCatalog versus sderaster command line loading and what this means in terms of image pre-processing. Problems caused by pixel misalignment after reprojection, black borders on imagery, loading images with colormaps or without image statistics will be. Solutions to these problems using ArcGIS and third party software will be described.
