Author(s): Ethan Gibney, Catherine Bohn, David Lawson, Frank Oporto

The 2004 Hurricane season was a busy year with four hurricanes making landfall on the coast of Florida. This presentation will discuss how GIS was utilized at the Florida Disaster Field Office for Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne to assist in the decision making process. The focus of this presentation will be on the event data gathered and how it was used, the GIS map products developed, and the technology and applications that can improve the response time. This presentation will conclude by providing some of the challenges on utilizing GIS for emergency management.
