Abstract
An Interactive Tribal GIS on the Flathead Indian Reservation Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): Donald Sam Our work utilizes a number of tools in preserving the Culture and Identity of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes, my presentation is a small part of this effort. We are making the capturing, preparation, and dissemination of the histories and cultures of both the Bitterroot Salish and the Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation such that they are relevant to the needs of our Nations. This presentation will show how we are using the technologies available today to make ethnographic research relevant and captivating to the communities we serve. We are also using our Elders' Oral history documented over the past 30 years (both written and recorded) with specific fonts for our Indian Place Names. This presentation will focus on the Little Bitterroot Valley in the northern portion of the Flathead Indian Reservation, west of Flathead Lake in Northwestern Montana.
