Abstract
The Pittsburgh Street Addressing Project Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): Christopher Temple, Glenn Ponas, Robert Regan, Ken Sochats Pittsburgh Public Schools, in collaboration with the Visual Information Systems Center of the University of Pittsburgh, has developed, using ArcGIS, the PPS Atlas and Data Fact Book to provide timely geographic based information to administrators, principals, teachers, and parents regarding the composition of schools and the feeder patterns for those schools. The Atlas on CD and via a Web site, provides maps of the district, each school, neighborhood, political subdivision, or other relevant subdivision showing the locations of students within that area. Maps are also available showing the location of libraries, bus routes, community centers, and other important assets. The rivers, hills, and other geographic features, combined with a rather fluent history of Pittsburgh, provide a unique set of problems for Atlas geo-coding. This paper will provide the rationale for the Pittsburgh Street Addressing project, review the project's history and developments, and outline the plans for future development.
